Illustrator Pablo Rosendo, winner of the first comic competition for SENER in Space, which is celebrating its 50th anniversary13/02/2017 (Spain)
The first SENER in Space comic competition, ‘A Stellar Trajectory’, has found its winner: Pablo Rosendo, a 32-year-old illustrator from Galicia. The panel of judges unanimously agreed that, based on his draft, titled ‘Aprendiendo, jugando, imaginando’ (Learning, playing, imagining), Pablo Rosendo was the best choice to develop a full-length comic for the company. The work, which is to be delivered on March 3, will be 4 to 8 pages long and carries an award of 1,000 euros.
2017 marks the 50th year of SENER’s pursuits in space, and among various other activities being organized to commemorate the occasion, it launched this competition in early January. The purpose of the comic is to make the general public more aware of the significance of the work the company has been carrying out over the last five decades, and to offer people a closer look at the aerospace sector’s latest technologies.
Selection of the winner
The panel of judges unanimously chose the draft ‘Aprendiendo, jugando, imaginando’ for best encapsulating the company’s path of progress over these 50 years of activity in the space sector. The judges also took into account the quality of the drawings, as well as the originality, vitality and optimism with which the key messages of the 50th anniversary of SENER in Space were expressed.

SENER in Space, leading the way
The lead role in the story had to be SENER in Space, and it was to be told in the first or third person, or through the eyes of a child. The draft also had to reflect some of the key messages of the 50th anniversary of SENER in Space:
That SENER is celebrating 50 years of successful ongoing exploration and technological capacities in the space sector; essentially, elevating the recognition of SENER in Space. That SENER is a groundbreaking company in Spain and a leader in the field of space engineering, an area where the technical demands are at their utmost, also highlighting that SENER in Space has participated in over 70% of the science projects of the European Space Agency (ESA). Furthermore, that SENER has supplied over 270 devices and systems for satellites and space vehicles, not only for the European Space Agency (ESA), but also for agencies such as NASA (USA), JAXA (Japan) and Roscosmos (Russia), and all of the technological devices SENER has delivered over this half century have worked nominally, i.e. with no defects whatsoever. The winner will cede all rights for the comic submitted in the competition to SENER. As such, the rights of ownership, use and other rights over the work will all be reserved for SENER, which may also translate it into any languages it deems appropriate.
