SENER receives Award for Best Initiative in internationalization from El Vigía

The engineering and technology group SENER was one of the prizewinners in the XVI Awards for the Best Spanish Logistics, Transportation and Infrastructure Initiatives held by the publication El Vigía. SENER was awarded specifically in the category of Best Internationalization Strategy. In their own words, the panel of judges paid tribute to SENER for “its increase in operations outside Spain since 1966, the year when it achieved its first international contract.” They also highlighted that SENER currently operates its own offices in 20 countries across four continents. Indeed, this very year it has opened a division in India and a new office in the United Kingdom.

The awards ceremony took place on November 18 in the Maritime Museum of Barcelona and was presided over by the Spanish Minister of Public Works and Transportation, Ana Pastor; the Mayor of Barcelona, Xavier Trias; the Catalan Regional Government’s Councilor for Territory and Sustainability, Santi Vila; and the president of the Spanish Confederation of Business Organizations (CEOE), Juan Rosell. The prize was collected on behalf of SENER by the General Manager of Infrastructures and Transport, José Gregorio Briz, who attended the ceremony with the Director of SENER in Catalonia, Òscar Julià.

Internationalization has been a key factor to the success of SENER. The engineering and technology group comprises more than 5,500 professionals and has been competing for contracts around the globe since its earliest days. In light of its own projects and the opportunities becoming apparent in different regions, at the turn of the millennium SENER drove forward with the opening of divisions outside Spain to solidify its permanence in the long term, a value exemplified throughout the company’s history.

In this day and age, internationalization forms part of the group’s 3i strategy: Innovation, Internationalization and Investment. Within the framework of this strategy, internationalization has made it possible for the company to identify opportunities in emerging sectors in other countries, and also to endure times of reduced activity on a national level. Furthermore, the strategy allows the company to establish vital proximity with clients, which is key to achieving contracts and contributes to maintaining the culture of excellence that has characterized SENER since day one.

The Awards for the Best Spanish Logistics, Transportation and Infrastructure Initiatives, held on an annual basis by El Vigía in conjunction with the Infrastructures Society foundation, aim to give recognition to the good work of all companies, institutions and people in the transportation, logistics and infrastructure sectors who, over the years, have excelled in their initiatives towards improving the efficiency and competitiveness of their organizations on both national and international levels.

The 2017 accounts show an Operating Income of 766.8 million euros and a workforce of over 2,250 people. EBITDA increased to 26.1 million euros, 33% more than in 2016. Innovation continues to be a cornerstone, with an investment of over 25.4 million in R&D, equivalent to a 2.2% increase over the previous year.[+]
