SENER wins the Potencia award in the Tunnels category23/11/2012 (Spain)
SENER has been recognised in the Potencia awards, delivered each year by TPI Group, in the Tunnels category, for the project SENER has carried out in the Spanish High Speed Line tunnel in Barcelona that joins the current high speed station of Sants and the future La Sagrera station.
In the 6th Edition of the Potencia Awards 2012, SENER competed in the Tunnels section, on the one hand, against the companies Dragados in temporary joint ventures Zarátamo and Tolosa, for the false tunnels project in the Basque ‘Y’ high speed stretch of the Madrid-Basque Country high speed line (north of Spain); and, on the other hand against Joca Ingeniería y Construcciones and Intervías del Levante y Sarco, for the rainwater interceptors of the Northern and Western districts of Cartagena (Murcia, south of Spain).
In this occasion, SENER has won the final prize thanks to real-time risk monitoring and controlling of the tunneling boring machine (TMB) in the Sants-Sagrera high speed tunnel in the city of Barcelona.
This project has represented a huge challenge for the engineering company due to the tunnel passing close to the heritage sites of La Pedrera and the Sagrada Familia and the works have been totally supervised by UNESCO.
SENER, through the real-time supervising of the boring machine operation together with the excavation parameters measuring, managed to reduce to minimum the surface setling and achieved to develop the project without any relevant incident.
On the occassion of the project works execution of the Madrid-Barcelona–French Border high speed line, Adif (Administrador de Infraestructuras Ferroviarias, Spanish railway infrastructure manager) awarded SENER the contract to carry out the risk management consultancy in the tunneling boring machines (TMB-EPB) operations in the Sants-Sagrera, Montcada and Gerona tunnels.
In concrete, the Sants-Sagrega stretch awarded in this edition, fully runs in the municipality of Barcelona and passes by Provença street, Avenida Diagonal and Mallorca street. The executed tunnel total lenght is 5,100 meters, of which 4,849 m are carried out through a tunneling boring machine (TMB-EPB).
The Potencia awards were delivered on November 22 in a gala dinner in which the people in SENER in charge of picking up the prize were José Gómez Cabrera, risk Manager of Sants-Sagrera tunnel, and Juan Herrera Fernández, deputy director of the Strategic Business Unit of Infrastructures and Transport.
