The architects Dolores Palacios and Federico Soriano were awarded first prize for this project in the architecture competition held by the Diputación Foral de Bizkaia (Regional Council of Bizkaia). It looks like the last ship to come out of the old Euskalduna shipyards.

On the façade that faces the river, we see a rusty old boat, transformed into an opera house, which pays homage to Bilbao's naval and metalworking past. The other side, made from aluminium, glass and stone, shows the city a great conference centre. It is a spectacular, multifaceted and multifunctional architectural and engineering work.

From the project’s outset, the architecture team was involved in the structural calculation and design, foundations and urban installations, as well as the design and definition of the exterior development, including both the pedestrian areas and the surrounding roadways and car parks.

Project consultancy and coordination works were subsequently carried out, while the works management was conducted together with the architects. Technical supervision also took place: quality control, dimensional control, approval of theatre fittings, measurements, budgets and certificates.

SENER also provided consultancy on the purchase of other fittings.
