SENER was responsible for the conceptual design, operational design and legal and financial planning of the first metro line in the city of Bogotá.

In 2008, the consortium formed by SENER, Transporte Metropolitano de Barcelona (TMB), Advanced Logistic Group, INCOPLAN, Santander Investment, Colombia and Garrigues lawyers, was awarded the contract to perform the ‘Conceptual design of the massive underground transport network and operational design and legal and financial planning of the first metro line, within the framework of the Integrated Public Transport System (IPTS) for the city of Bogotá’.

SENER, as leader of this consortium, has carried out the project management as well as its technical development: demand study, study of alternatives and conceptual design of the first metro line.

The works have been structured in different stages, comprising examination of the economic, urban and transport characteristics of Bogotá; transport modeling for different scenarios in the city until 2038, as well as the regulatory and financial analysis.

On the basis of this analysis and by means of the study of alternatives and their evaluation, the mass transport network for the IPTS is defined considering underground, Transmilenio and Suburban Rail routes. The first selected line has a total of 34.5 km, 18 of them in the tunnel, 6 km half-buried, 10.5 km on the surface and a total of 33 stations. In the first phase it is foreseen to build the eastern section of 19.5 km and 19 stations.
